Hilljatra is a festival celebrated by farmers in Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand . The festival is associated with paddy transplantation, which is held during the rainy season. During this festival, an elaborate masquerade is held to represent various types of agricultural activities and folk legends are enacted by masked dancers, representing the victory of deities over demons.

In the first part of the festival, worship and the ritual sacrifice of goats is done.
In the second part of this festival in Uttarakhand, dramatic presentations of pastoral and agricultural activities are performed.
In the third part, hymns are sung both traditional as well as new, along with the dance. This celebration continues throughout the night.
